I had started this out as a Facebook post. Four hundred plus words later I figured this might just be too much for a status update. Why not try to start that blog I have been working towards for the last 6 or so months...
This year I started monthly challenges as a way to give my clients some ideas on exercises and quick workouts that they could do at home in addition to their daily routine. For the month of May, I decided to try something a little different.
Health and fitness has played an important role in my life. While maintaining physical fitness, I can’t say I am always healthy. For optimal health we need balance between the body, mind and spirit. For me, the mind and spirit are consistently lacking.
Frequent negative self talk and rarely taking time for myself are my biggest challenges and I am confident I am not the only one. My hope for the May challenge was to help others recognize their own challenges and focus on improving their mind and spirit for wellness balance.
As part of the May challenge, each week starts out with a positive affirmation. It is expected that everyone will have a different affirmation and use this positive thought to push out some of the negative. At the beginning, you may not fully believe the thought, but through the week, or month, or however long, you will say it enough and start to believe it and let it become your reality.
I hadn’t planned to share my positive affirmations this month. They are very personal to me and I was scared of what others would think. I was worried that someone may judge me for them. After a conversation with a client earlier this week about just that: judgment from others, and holding back on things because of fear of being judged, I have been feeling a bit like a hypocrite. I am not really practicing what I preach.
So here it goes, for all of you to judge.
My positive affirmation for the first week of May is: I AM ENOUGH
Three very simple words in one straight forward phrase have proven to be very difficult for me to believe.
I am enough of a mom to my 4 babies. I am enough of a wife, daughter, sister, friend, trainer, coach, homemaker, role model, and all the other shoes I try to fill on a daily basis.
I have repeated these 3 words many times this past week and will continue to repeat them until I believe them. Every time those guilty thoughts rear their ugly head taunting me, I am going to replace them with my mantra: I AM ENOUGH.
I had originally planned to have a new affirmation each week. I am going to need a bit longer with this one and will keep repeating it for the entire month or longer. When I can confidently feel and believe that I am always enough, no matter what the world can throw at me, I will work on my next affirmation.
Have you been working with an affirmation for the Love Yourself challenge? What is standing in your way?
